How to take measurements

■ Outerwear.

Length: Length measured from the centre of the back of the garment (under the collar if there is a collar) to the hem.

Shoulder width - Length measured from end to end of both shoulders.

Body width - Length measured when the garment is laid flat and extended under the armpits.

Hem width - Length measured from end to end when laid flat.

Sleeve length - Length measured from the outside of the sleeve from the tip of the shoulder to the cuff.

Length from the back centre of the sleeve (under the collar if there is a collar) to the end of the sleeve along the outside of the sleeve, passing over the tip of the shoulder.

Neck circumference - Length measured from the sewing point of the button to the centre of the buttonhole.

Shirts and blouses

Length: Length measured from the centre of the back of the garment (under the collar if there is a collar) to the hem.

Shoulder width - Length measured from end to end of both shoulders.

Body width - Length measured from left to right at the underarm seam of the garment.

Hem width - Length measured from end to end when laid flat.

Sleeve length - Length measured from the outside of the sleeve from the tip of the shoulder to the cuff.

Length from the back centre of the sleeve (under the collar if there is a collar) to the end of the sleeve along the outside of the sleeve, passing over the tip of the shoulder.

Neck circumference - Length measured from the sewing point of the button to the centre of the buttonhole.

■ Tops.

Length of garment - measured from the centre of the back of the garment to the hem (including the ribs).

Shoulder width - Length measured from end to end of both shoulders.

Body width - Length measured from left to right at the underarm seam of the garment.

Hem width - Length measured from end to end when laid flat.

Sleeve length - Length measured from the outside of the sleeve from the tip of the shoulder to the cuff.

Length from the back centre of the sleeve (under the collar if there is a collar) to the end of the sleeve along the outside of the sleeve, passing over the tip of the shoulder.

Pants.

Waist - Length measured from end to end, laid flat and doubled.

Total length - Length measured from the top of the waist belt armpit to the end of the hem.

Front crotch - Length measured from the top of the waist belt to the intersection of the crotch.

Inseam - Length measured from the intersection of the crotch seam to the hem along the inner crotch seam when laid flat.

Thigh width - Length measured from the lowest centre of the crotch when laid flat, extending the scale horizontally and measuring where the scale is perpendicular to the outer armpit line.

Hem width: Length measured from edge to edge of the hem when laid flat.

■ Skirts.

Waist - Length measured from end to end, laid flat and doubled.

Total length - Length measured from the top of the skirt to the hem.

■ One piece.

Length of garment - measured from the centre of the back of the garment to the hem (including the ribs).

Shoulder width - Length measured from end to end of both shoulders.

Body width - Length measured from left to right at the underarm seam of the garment.

Sleeve length - Length measured from the outside of the sleeve from the tip of the shoulder to the cuff.
