SAILING DRESS

Sailing dress #Indigo [241301]
Maran Gee #Natural Beige Ribbon [UK-H026-BE-M]

It is made with plenty of fabric woven with a sashiko motif, and the color is a perfect match for the straw hat.

I hope a close-up photo of the fabric will convey this, but it really does look like it's been sashiko'd.

Sashiko started as a way to reinforce and keep the fabric warm, and people would sew each stitch with prayers in mind. Nowadays, there are kits for making things like dishcloths and cushions with sashiko on sale.

There was a time when I was crazy about sashiko.

I picked it up as a way to try something new during a time when I couldn't leave the house.

I made masks using fabric with my favorite threads and patterns. I couldn't go out and it was a depressing time, but I felt happy when I put on the mask. Another good thing about sashiko is that it doesn't lose its shape even after washing.

Then my grandmother and mother also became obsessed with it, and three generations made a variety of things to their tastes.

Even during those difficult days, it holds good memories, so I couldn't bring myself to throw it away and still keep it.
