When viewed from above, it looks like an ice pack.
I think the time to use an ice pack is on a serious note, but I used one when I hurt my pinky finger after failing to catch the ball while playing dodgeball.
The next day, it was swollen to the point of being shocking, and I was shocked to find out that I had broken a bone. I was stunned, but it turned out to be a ball thrown by the softball team, so the embarrassment was lessened by half.
