It's a back-open dress, but I've styled it front to back with a black skirt. 
I have a red dress and it's one that I always take with me when I travel.
Wearing it while traveling definitely lifts your spirits. It also has the added benefit of helping you find your friends easily if you get separated from them.
A red dress once saved me, so I recommend you to wear a color that will catch people's attention when you travel. I'm sure it will come in handy at some point.
